A collection of units regarding how art, science and technology shape our lives...

This unit introduces students to the relationships between art, science, technology and humanity. These four facets are at a constant volley with each other.  The power of which affects moments in history, our present times and our future. Art, science and technology impacts the way we function and how we perceive the world. Artists, scientist and technologist contribute to our quality of life and our life experience. Our awareness and understanding of the powerful addition these elements make in life, will be essential in our productive survival collectively and personally.

1. What overarching understandings are desired?

  • Art and culture have a historical and present day volley that affects the course of human history.

  • Artist, scientist and inventors use their discoveries and expressions to change the world. They contribute in changing how we live, function and how we perceive life.

  • Art evolves as does scientific discovery and technological advancements.

  • Advancements affect our ability to share ideas, our quality of life and our future.

  • Living productively in the future will require awareness and an understanding of these new systems and products.

2. What are the overarching “essential” questions?

  • How does art, science and technology affect human history?

  • How does art, science and technology affect each other?

  • How does art, science and technology work together to change our world?

  • Why is it important to incorporate art, science and technology together?

  • How can I be more aware and participatory regarding the function of art, science and technology to be better prepared for my future.

  • What does art, science and technology look like in the future? As a result what does my future look like?

3. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of:

  • How art, science and technology have worked together to affect great and subtle change in human history.

  • How artists will incorporate technology into art and how scientists and techologists incorporate art into their advancements.

  • How these advancements affect us globally, locally and personally.

  • How art, science and technology helps to change the perceptions of our world, universe and life.

  • How students can use this knowledge to create art that expresses personal ideas, contributes to existing mediums/technologies and think of ways to further these advancements in their own lives, present and future.
